When Me And Billy Fish Watched The Man Who Would Be King
There's nothing like seeing a favourite film in the company of one of the stars.
During a screening of John Huston's The Man Who Would Be King at the Birmingham Odeon in the early '90s, I turned around to hush whomever was laughing hysterically behind me, only to find that it was none other than Billy Fish himself, Saeed Jaffrey!
Any annoyance on my behalf dissolved as the star of Gandhi and My Beautiful Laundrette held up his hands my way of apology, then got straight back to raucously enjoying the film and his work in it.
With Huston's film among my own favourites, the pleasure of revisiting it will forever be doubled by recalling the time that I sat in the stalls with Saeed Jaffrey and savoured his finest movie hour.
Saeed Jaffrey died on November 15th 2015.
"Rifleman Majendra Bahadur Gurung wishing you many good lucks!"
