There’s never been a better British movie about the music industry. But how did the Factory Records founder react when he found out he was being played by Steve Coogan?
“I felt very old.” That’s what Anthony H Wilson said when he was told he’d be played by Steve Coogan in the Michael Winterbottom movie 24 Hour Party People. “The thing is, I’d been to a party at Steve’s parents’ house back in the 1970s. I was doing a lot of things with Granada Television at the time so I was well known in the area. Apparently, when I arrived at the party, Steve and his siblings were sat at the top of the stairs trying to get a glimpse of ‘the TV star’. I’m not sure how old Steve was then, but I know exactly how ancient I felt when Michael told me he’d been cast as me in the movie.”
