Lord Summerisle, The Wicker Man (1973)
Compared to some of the malevolent monsters he’s played, Christopher Lee’s Lord Summerisle is quite a civilised old cove. Affable, charming and well-read though he seems, it’s not long before the Laird proves to be a pagan so fanatical, he has the strength to make Edward Woodward’s virginal, God-fearing policeman take the Lord’s name in vain. That said, Roger ‘The Equalizer’ McCall or Harry ‘Breaker’ Morant would be hard pushed to stop a cult leader so unhinged, he makes Jim Jones look like Martin Luther King.
