Remember when blokes began wearing vests again the mid-to-late 1990s? Well, Swingers is the film to blame
Doug Liman’s Swingers was but one of the hundreds of low-budget movies made in America in the mid-to-late 1990s. The vast majority of these pictures seldom saw the light of day, that’s unless you count spells on the film festival circuit and stints in the straight-to-video section of your local Blockbuster*. According to its director, it looked like a similar fate lay in wait for Swingers. Indeed, Doug Liman’s hopes for the picture were so slight, he didn’t bother to take any photos during production. Because of this, there are barely two dozen behind-the-scenes pictures of a movie that, in its own, achingly hip way, gave cinema a much needed shot in the arm.
