There’s something weird about the eighth episode of each series of Succession. The source of weirdness? There’s no pre-credit scene.
The upside of a cold open is that it insists we take in the show’s magnificent credit sequence afresh. Modelled, at least in part, upon the flashback sequences in David Fincher’s The Game, these shots of a family at - admittedly rather sombre - play also have something of the B-roll footage of JFK larking about with his kids and the family pets; the big difference being that, as in Succession the programme, Succession’s credit sequence exclusively features people who have everything except a good time.
But surely a stag-do will raise the spirits? A few days off the leash in Prague before sending Mr Wambsgans down the aisle sounds like just the sort of thing the Roy menfolk require. Only thing is, with Roman in charge of the festivities, there will be no excursion to Eastern Europe. Rather the Roys are heading beneath New York City to party with the Morlocks and the mole people.
