For ages, it was a 'go' project. But with the X-Men in tatters, the New Orleans card sharp seems destined never to front a feature film.

I remember writing the following paragraphs in the summer of 2015 all too well. The reason for this is that Gambit was a Marvel film I was genuinely looking forward to…

“Gambit will star Magic Mike’s Channing Tatum as a Cajun mutant with the ability to create and manipulate kinetic energy. Because of this, anything he throws becomes lethal. And having been raised around the illegal gaming houses of New Orleans, it’s no surprise that playing cards are his weapon of choice.

“Otherwise known as Remy Lebeau, Gambit was previously played by True Detective’s Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The character has also cropped up in various X-Men cartoons, occasionally being voiced by Phil Lamaar, aka Hermes Conrad from Futurama and the luckless Marvin in Pulp Fiction.”
