A compelling picture about compromise and the fine art of staying true to oneself, Ondi 'We Live In Public' Timmoner's film is all the more compelling for suggesting that 'selling out', as many might claim The Warhols did, isn't necessarily a bad thing. And what is the backing for this stand-point? The madness that consumes Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe whose quest for artistic purity results in him playing 10-hour concerts in a friend's basement and looking on the brink of a nervous breakdown.
George Harrison: Living In The Material World (2011) - Martin Scorsese's always considered himself a bit of a rock fan. From his bold use of music in Mean Streets and Goodfellas to his concert movies (The Last Waltz and Shine A Light), it's clearly an important part of his life. It was with this film about 'The Quiet One' that Scorsese finally made a documentary to rival his finest fictional works. A lengthy affair, no area of George's life is left unturned. And with the talking heads including Paul, Ringo and Harrison's widow Olivia and son Dhani, by the time Living In The Material World ends, you understand how it begins - with musician Ray Cooper in tears as he struggles to talk about the friend he misses so dearly.
