So what problems did The Man Who Killed Don Quixote face? Gosh, where to begin… Countless scheduling conflicts, massive pressure from the film’s many investors,
an accommodating but expensive star (one J. Depp), a rapidly ballooning budget… Things were rough for Terry Gilliam long before the cameras rolled.
And once they did, a hailstorm of almost Biblical ferocity caused set-destroying flash floods and then the Spanish air force started flying jets over the location an an eardrum-busting altitude. But the crunch came when Gilliam’s Don Quixote,
the septuagenarian French actor Jean Rochefort, developed a nasty prostate problem that made it impossible for him to sit astride a horse - a bit of a problem given that the character is on horseback from most of the movie.
